Metropolitan Laundry & Linen Services environmental policy is led by an award winning water reclamation system. In 2007, we became one of the first to participate in the SNWA’s Water Efficient Technologies program. We developed a process to use ozone to treat grey water, which is then recycled and reused. The ozone water kills all bacteria, germs, parasites, bed bugs and air borne contaminants. This innovation saved approximately 5 million gallons of water in its first year. We also continue to work to make our business more efficient, including testing new products that improve water efficiency and quality. In 2010, we were recognized by the Water Conservation Coalition and presented with a Water Hero Award for our efforts and participation. The reduction on environmental impact by reusing the waste water cuts down on the use of natural gas which would otherwise be needed to heat the water from street temperature. By using the ozone treated water you cut down on the use of harmful toxins like bleach extending the life-cycle of your linen to 5-7 years if handled properly while also benefiting from the brightening effect of the treatment. When made possible by our customers, we ask that all delivery materials be returned to us so we can reuse the hangers, safety pins, tags, etc., to more actively minimize our waste impact. At the end of a linens life we return it to our customers so it can be utilized by the property for cleaning rags or other back kitchen uses. We consistently strive to introduce new technologies as they become available to be more reliable and efficient to our customers and create an environment better suited for our community.
